Inmarsat
keen on sat-radio
“ Good long
hard look at potential”
Inside Satellitehas reported on the various prospects for satellite radio over
Europe these past few months. Now Inmarsat has confirmed its previously reported
interest. A senior staffer told us on June 10 that Inmarsat’s recently
established corporate development division was set up to pursue exactly this
sort of opportunity. “Galileo is one of the ventures that we are more public
on,” said our source, “and we are active looking at the Air Traffic
Control possi- bilities in the US, and we have also been having a close look
at satellite radio, as have other operators. Driven by the success of XM and
Sirius, this is only natural.”
